Masiaka, Sierra Leone – In a significant blow to drug trafficking in the region, authorities arrested a man alleged to be dealing in the dangerous synthetic drug known as “kush” during a routine stop at the busy Masiaka checkpoint.
On Monday, January 5, 2026, a joint operation involving the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) at the Masiaka (MAC-P) checkpoint on the Bo–Masiaka Road led to the capture of Alhaji Sillah, a resident of Portee in Freetown.
Officers conducting standard vehicle checks discovered six parcels of suspected kush hidden in the suspect’s possession.
The highly addictive substance has been linked to rising concerns over substance abuse across the country.
Sillah was immediately taken into custody, and both he and the seized drugs remain with the police as investigations proceed.
The arrest underscores ongoing collaborative efforts by security forces to curb the flow of illegal drugs through key highways, aiming to protect communities from the devastating effects of trafficking and addiction.
