Freetown — Rodney Michael has resigned as Chairman of Sierra Leone football giants Mighty Blackpool, bringing an end to a leadership stint that began in September 2021.
In a heartfelt statement posted on his official social media accounts, Michael described his time at the helm as a profound honour.
He extended deep appreciation to the club’s elders, loyal supporters, former players, executive members, technical staff, and current squad for their unwavering trust, backing, and collaboration during his tenure.
The resignation was formally tendered during an emergency meeting of the club’s Executive Committee, which was convened at Michael’s residence. Committee members accepted the decision, albeit with some reluctance, and agreed to notify key stakeholders, including club elders and the wider supporter base.
Mighty Blackpool remains one of Sierra Leone’s most storied football institutions, with a rich heritage that holds a special place in the nation’s sporting history.
In his farewell message, Michael paid tribute to that legacy, calling the club the greatest in Sierra Leone’s football annals and reaffirming his deep emotional ties to its future.
Though he is stepping away from the chairman’s role, Michael made it clear that his commitment to the club will not end. He pledged continued support in other capacities and wished the team every success in the seasons ahead.
For the club’s passionate fans — widely known as the “Tiss Tass Boys” — the announcement signals the close of a significant chapter in Mighty Blackpool’s modern administration. Attention now turns to the search for new leadership and the direction the club will take as it enters its next era.
Michael’s departure marks the end of a notable period in the club’s recent history, leaving behind a legacy that supporters and stakeholders will evaluate as Mighty Blackpool charts its course forward.
