Former APC presidential candidate Samura Kamara has accused sections of the party’s national leadership of engaging in what he described as “anti-party activities,” warning that the ongoing internal crisis could have implications for Sierra Leone’s democracy.
In a letter dated 29 April 2026 and addressed to I.B. Kargbo of the APC Elders Council, Kamara responded to proposals for an expanded meeting aimed at resolving tensions within the opposition party.
Kamara stated that he believes the APC’s national leadership acted in ways that fall within the definition of “anti-party activities” under the party’s constitution, whether intentionally or otherwise.
According to him, the actions of the leadership left many party supporters and citizens disappointed.
“The rest, as they say, is history, and it is continuing to date,” he wrote, while questioning what the situation could mean for the future of democracy in the country.
The former presidential candidate said he and other advocates for what he called “Electoral Justice and Democracy Restoration” within the APC remain focused on addressing concerns surrounding the 24 June 2023 general elections.
Kamara described the campaign as a “sacred duty” and “selfless service” to the people of Sierra Leone, stressing that safeguarding democracy should remain a national priority.
He expressed willingness to participate in any dialogue initiated by the Elders Council but insisted that discussions must centre on the aftermath of the 2023 presidential election, including the implementation of the Agreement for National Unity and recommendations made by the Tripartite Committee.
Kamara also called for frank discussions on what he described as declining public confidence in the APC National Executive and the future direction of the party within Sierra Leone’s multi-party democratic system.
“We must have by now acquired many existential lessons to draw from,” he noted in the letter.
He further indicated that he could nominate representatives with full authority to participate in the early stages of the proposed engagements.
Kamara concluded by commending the APC Elders Council for its efforts to mediate and promote unity within the party.
