The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has received a significant boost in its security and surveillance capacity following a donation of camera drones and body cameras from former police officer Eric James Musa, now based in the United States.
The donation, facilitated through Squad R1 2005 of the SLP and the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority, was officially handed over at police headquarters in Freetown.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu expressed deep gratitude for the gesture, describing it as the first time in his career that a former officer has given back to the force in such a remarkable way.
He praised Musa’s commitment to supporting law enforcement in Sierra Leone and encouraged other ex-officers and citizens to emulate the example.
Sellu also highlighted the crucial role of drones in policing, citing past instances where drone surveillance helped prevent protests and ensured peace during major political events.
The IGP revealed that the SLP has established “drone corridors” nationwide, equipping each district with a surveillance drone to strengthen monitoring and response capacity.
He emphasized that the new technology will significantly enhance law enforcement operations and public safety, marking a new chapter in modern policing for Sierra Leone.
