The Sierra Leone football community mourns the untimely demise of former Old Edwardian and Leone Stars midfielder, Abu Bakarr Mansaray, who passed away in Ivory Coast after a brief illness.
Known affectionately as Robinho D Match, Mansaray began his career representing Sierra Leone in the U-20 category. However, in pursuit of better opportunities, he later ventured to Guinea and eventually settled in Ivory Coast, where he tragically lost his life.
The news was confirmed by Prince Barrie, Mansaray’s former teammate at Hafia FC in Guinea, through a heartfelt Facebook post.
Barrie expressed his disbelief and sorrow, paying tribute to Mansaray as a dear friend and reminiscing about their time together on the field in Guinea. “Can’t believe you’re gone. Rest in heaven, Robinho Bro. My former teammate. We played together in Guinea,” Barrie’s post read.
Prior to his international exploits, Mansaray showcased his talent at clubs such as Old Edwardians and Ports Authority.
His exceptional skills eventually earned him a call-up to represent the Sierra Leone National Football team, the Leone Stars. Throughout his career, Mansaray left a lasting impression on the footballing community, both within Sierra Leone and beyond.
Abu Bakarr Mansaray’s unexpected passing has left a void in the hearts of his former teammates, friends, and fans. The football fraternity mourns the loss of a talented player and sends condolences to Mansaray’s family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.
