Freetown, August 27, 2025 – The Government of Sierra Leone has announced that it will fully cover the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) fees for all approved private candidates who missed the May/June 2025 exams.
According to the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), the initiative will allow these candidates to sit the November 2025 session at no personal cost.
Communications Specialist at the ministry, Augustine Bamie Anthony, said the move underscores government’s commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for learners.
He revealed that the ministry has rolled out several measures in preparation for the exams. These include free remedial classes across the country, ongoing consultations with schools to finalize exam arrangements, and strict verification processes to ensure accuracy in candidate data.
Anthony further explained that the MBSSE is working with Afrimoney to confirm the list of registered candidates, a step he described as “vital to ensure resources reach the rightful beneficiaries.”
“The Ministry assures the public that all necessary arrangements are underway for a smooth November WASSCE,” Anthony stated, urging candidates to make use of the free classes provided.
He added that government remains determined to remove financial barriers, widen access to quality education, and provide an equitable platform for academic success.
