Freetown, August 2, 2026 – The Honourable Vice President Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh this afternoon graciously received His Excellency Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, President of the Gabonese Republic, upon his arrival at Freetown International Airport (Lungi).
President Oligui Nguema is in Sierra Leone for a three-day Official State Visit (2–4 August 2026) at the invitation of His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio. This marks the Gabonese leader’s first official trip to Sierra Leone since his constitutional election on 3 May 2025.
During his stay, the visiting Head of State will hold high-level bilateral talks with President Bio and engage Government Ministers as well as members of the private sector. Discussions are expected to focus on deepening cooperation in agriculture, mining, technology, education, energy, trade, investment, tourism and good governance.
The itinerary also includes visits to two of Sierra Leone’s premier tourism and conservation sites: the prestigious Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary in the Western Area Peninsula National Park and the Leicester Peak Viewing Platform, which offers panoramic views of Freetown and the Atlantic coastline. These stops highlight the country’s growing eco-tourism potential and its commitment to protecting biodiversity.
The visit comes after President Bio attended President Oligui Nguema’s inauguration in Libreville in May 2025 and builds on earlier ties between the two nations.
Officials describe it as an opportunity to expand economic partnerships, attract investment into Sierra Leone, and strengthen fraternal relations between Freetown and Libreville.
The State Visit is scheduled to conclude with a state banquet before the Gabonese President’s departure on Tuesday, 4 August.
