FREETOWN, November 18, 2024 – A devastating fire erupted earlier today at a Chinese factory adjacent to the National Railway Museum, causing significant damage to the historic site.
The fire, which spread to the museum, destroyed its roof, windows, a section of the wall, and one of its main doors. Emergency distress calls were promptly made to the Fire Service Department.
While the blaze has been brought under control, the cause of the fire remains unknown, as investigations have yet to reveal any conclusive evidence.
National Coordinator of the National Railway Museum, Abu Bakarr Nyalander-Kargbo, who witnessed the incident, described the scene: “The fire was rapidly advancing towards the roof of the National Railway Museum while I was at the scene.”
Efforts are now focused on assessing the damage and planning repairs, but officials have indicated that substantial resources will be required to restore the museum to its original state.
