In a bid to secure a strong start to their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, Coach Amidu Karim expresses confidence as Sierra Leone gears up to face Ethiopia on Wednesday.
Taking the helm just a month ago, Karim, eager to mark his Leone Stars debut, anticipates a challenging opener against the Walias Ibex at the El Abdi Stadium, Al Jadida.
Boosting his squad with three new talents – Daniel Kanu, Tyrese Fornah, and Abdulai Jajue Kabia – Sierra Leone aims to capitalize on the positive momentum from their successful FIFA-friendly matches against Benin (1-1) and Somalia (2-0) in October.
Karim emphasizes the team’s meticulous preparations, acknowledging Ethiopia as a formidable opponent.
“We’ve studied their weaknesses and strengths, and we’re ready to face a strong side. Our focus is on achieving a positive result,” asserts Coach Karim.
Sierra Leone faces Ethiopia on Nov 15 in El Abdi Stadium, followed by a home match against Egypt in Monrovia on Nov 19.
While starting the campaign on a high is a priority, history notes Sierra Leone’s previous struggles against Ethiopia, marked by a disqualification in the 2018 AFCON qualifiers.
With the upcoming World Cup hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the USA, the Leone Stars are determined to overcome past setbacks and make their mark on the road to FIFA’s 23rd edition.
