In a significant development, the Court of the University of Sierra Leone has been directed by the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) to delve into alleged financial and administrative irregularities dating back from 2018 to 2023.
The Ministry’s directive comes following advice from the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) to dissolve the University Court immediately, annulling all decisions made since December 11th, 2023, until the dissolution date.
Furthermore, an oversight committee will be established to manage the university’s affairs until a new Court is constituted.
The Chancellor and Chairman of the Court are expected to provide details regarding the investigation committee, including its procedures and commencement date, in accordance with relevant statutes such as the Universities Acts 2021, USL HR policy, University ordinance, USL conditions of service, financial manual, and related instruments.
