KABALA – The main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has ordered a re-run of its internal election for Constituency 044 in Kabala, Koinadugu District, following allegations of over-voting during the poll held on September 15.
The Constituency 044 election was among the batch of outstanding lower-level elections conducted by the party on 15th September after a High Court order of 31st August directed the APC to complete its internal polls. The party’s National Secretariat had designated the APC Party Office in Kabala as the voting centre for the constituency.
However, the outcome was immediately disputed, with party stakeholders raising concerns about the credibility and management of the process, including claims that the number of votes cast exceeded the number of registered delegates.
The APC Internal Election Management Committee has acknowledged the concerns. Its Koinadugu District Coordinator, Umaru Jogor Barrie, addressed the matter during an interview with AYV’s Kabala correspondent, explaining the committee’s role in monitoring elections, collecting data and supporting officials, and responding to questions about disagreements that emerged before and during the poll.
The decision to annul and re-run the election is seen as an attempt by the party leadership to restore confidence in the process.
The development comes amid broader scrutiny of the APC’s ongoing lower-level elections, which have been dogged by petitions and disputes across several districts.
In July, the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) intervened, directing the APC to improve transparency by publishing full candidate and delegate lists ahead of polls and ordering that no elections should proceed in wards or constituencies where related petitions were still unresolved.
The party is yet to announce a new date for the Constituency 044 re-run, but officials say it will be conducted under enhanced monitoring to ensure transparency and compliance with PPRC regulations.
