Freetown, September 3, 2026_ — The Sierra Leone entertainment industry is in mourning following the death of Thaimu Bangura, popularly known as “Snoop Tee”, President of the Eastern Artists Union.
He was confirmed dead on Wednesday morning in Malaysia.
The news was announced by members of the industry, who described it as a huge loss for music and the creative community in the east of Freetown.
Bangura’s death comes just over a year after the passing of the former EAU President, Master Rippo, who died on September 17, 2025 after a long illness.
Master Rippo was widely known for blending Afrobeat, dancehall and Sierra Leonean rhythms, and was celebrated for his stage energy and commitment to uplifting young people. His death drew tributes from major artists including Kao Denero, Drizilik and Star Zee.
The Eastern Artists Union was formed to represent artists in the east end of Freetown who felt neglected by national bodies.
On behalf of the entertainment industry, colleagues have extended condolences to the Bangura family.
Fans and fellow artists have also taken to social media to pay tribute, describing Bangura as a leader who worked to unite artists in the east and push the union’s vision forward.
The Eastern Artists Union has in recent years elected new leadership to strengthen unity among members. In previous elections, artists like Black Snoop were appointed to executive positions for their contributions to the union’s growth.
The cause of Bangura’s death in Malaysia has not yet been officially confirmed. Family members are expected to release further details and funeral arrangements in the coming days.
The Sierra Leone entertainment community continues to mourn what many are calling “another big loss” for the industry.
