FREETOWN, 27th October 2026 – The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has officially released the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, with 64.3% of candidates obtaining at least five credits.
Minister Conrad Sackey announced the results on Tuesday 27th October 2026 live on SLBC TV, after WAEC submitted the results to government on Friday 23rd October.
National Performance at a Glance
According to MBSSE, WAEC processed results for *200,756 candidates from 1,038 schools*. Results of five private schools – Great High School of Science and Business, Reverend Christian International, Royal International, Globe International and Faith Walk Academy Senior Secondary School – with 368 candidates, were excluded for non-payment of fees to WAEC.
Other key figures:
– 141,810 candidates sat at least one subject; 11,492 were absent from all subjects
– 91,122 candidates secured 5 Credits and above in a single sitting – representing 64.3% of results released, an improvement over 2025
– 81.4% paper pass rate – 916,125 passes out of 1,125,314 subject papers sat
Minister Sackey said the improvement reflects investments under the Free Quality School Education (FQSE) programme and continued teacher training and monitoring.
47,454 Results Withheld Over Malpractice
The Ministry confirmed that results of 47,454 candidates – 26,735 females and 20,719 males – have been withheld over suspected examination irregularities. WAEC will release some or all after investigations.

Sackey warned against scammers after a fake Facebook page impersonating him surfaced last week, claiming the government saved $1.37m on WASSCE fees and demanding payment for results.
“The authentic results are only on the WAEC portal and via the MBSSE SMS checker. Do not pay money to anyone,” he stressed.
Best Candidate: Grammar School Shines
Topping the 2026 national rankings is Alfred Farwell Thorpe of Sierra Leone Grammar School, Murray Town.
Alfred sat eight subjects and scored Six A1s, One B3 and One C4, with an average grade point of 1.63 – classified as Very Good – the highest aggregate among results released to MBSSE.
The achievement sparked celebration among Regentonians, with the 1845-founded school – one of West Africa’s oldest – trending with its blue-and-white colours on social media.
