FREETOWN, Monday 27th October 2026 – The Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, has announced that the 2026 West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results will be officially released on Tuesday 27th October at 12PM live on SLBC Television.
The Minister made the announcement in a short video message posted on his verified social media platforms this evening. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1CWmrNtZHF/
“I want to inform all pupils, parents and teachers that the 2026 WASSCE results will be announced tomorrow Tuesday 27th October at 12PM on SLBC Television,” Minister Sackey said.
The announcement ends weeks of anxiety, rumours and waiting for over 140,000 candidates who sat the examination in May-June 2026 across Sierra Leone.
Minister Warns Against Fake News
This latest confirmation comes just days after Minister Sackey disowned a viral social media report that falsely claimed government had saved US$1.37 million on WASSCE fees and that thousands of results were withheld.
In a strong rebuttal on 23rd-24th October, the Minister described the circulating statement attributed to him as “false, fabricated and misleading,” saying it did not emanate from him, his office, or the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE).
He warned the public against a fake Facebook page using the name “Conrad Sackey – Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education” which has been spreading misinformation about the results and even asking people for money.
The Minister stressed that all official updates regarding the 2026 WASSCE results will be communicated only through the Ministry and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) via their verified and official channels.
What to Expect Tomorrow
According to WAEC Sierra Leone, the official announcement on SLBC will include:
– Overall national performance statistics
– How to check results online via http://www.waecdirect.org
– How school principals can access their schools’ results
– Details on withheld or cancelled results due to malpractice
Parents and candidates are advised to tune in to SLBC TV Channel 31, SLBC Radio 100.0 FM, or watch live on SLBC’s Facebook page at 12 noon, and to disregard any results link shared on WhatsApp before the official announcement.
The Ministry is also expected to announce dates for the 2027 WASSCE private candidates registration and the opening of schools for the second term.
