FREETOWN, 27th October 2026 – The Sierra Leone Public Transport Authority (SLPTA) says it is probing the alleged assault of one of its Waka Fine drivers by two military officers, following the circulation of a viral video on social media.
In a press release dated 26th September 2026 and signed by SLPTA Management, the Authority confirmed that its attention had been drawn to the video showing an incident of assault involving two military officers and a Waka Fine driver.
According to the Authority, the matter has been referred to the Special Investigation Branch/Military Police Regiment of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and the Sierra Leone Police, who are jointly investigating the incident.
“The Public is hereby informed that the Special Investigation Branch/Military Police Regiment of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces and the Sierra Leone Police are investigating the incident, and we assure everyone that we will treat the matter with the importance it deserves,” SLPTA stated.
The Authority said it will keep the public informed about the outcome and appealed to anyone with additional information about what happened to come forward.
The video, which went viral on Friday night, 23rd October 2026, was filmed in the Up Gun area of Freetown. It appears to show two officers in military uniform physically attacking the bus driver while passengers shout for help. The driver is also seen trying to defend himself.
SLPTA assured that the safety and well-being of its drivers and the general public remain of utmost importance to the Authority.
Waka Fine buses, which are operated by SLPTA from the Wallace Johnson Street Central Bus Station, provide mass transport services across Freetown and are considered a key part of government’s efforts to ease transportation.
SLPTA says investigation is ongoing.
