FREETOWN, Sunday, 25th October 2026 – The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has strongly condemned the reported racist abuse and death threats directed at Sierra Leone international defender Juma Bah.
In a press release issued today, 25th October 2026, signed by Head of Media and Marketing Ibrahim Kamara, the Association said it is deeply concerned by the acts, including threats reportedly directed at the player’s family, and reiterated that such behaviour is unacceptable in football and society.
The statement follows a similar strong condemnation from Bah’s club, German Bundesliga side FC Augsburg, on Friday.
Augsburg revealed that the 20-year-old was subjected to “utterly vile racist abuse and death threats on Instagram” and that his family was also threatened. The club said it will report the incident to the police and pursue all legal options.
SLFA said it stands firmly in solidarity with Juma Bah, his family, and FC Augsburg during this difficult time, and commended the club for taking the matter seriously.
“Football unites people across nationalities, cultures, and backgrounds. Racism, intimidation, and threats of violence undermine the core values of respect, fairness, inclusion, and sportsmanship that the game represents,” the SLFA release stated.
“Every player deserves to compete and live without fear of racial discrimination, harassment, or threats to their personal safety.”
The Association called on football governing bodies, clubs, law enforcement agencies, social media platforms, and supporters worldwide to stand united against racism and take decisive action against all forms of abuse.
Bah is currently on a season-long loan at FC Augsburg from Manchester City, after loan spells at RC Lens and OGC Nice in France. He wears No. 35 at Augsburg.
The defender has been in good form since joining the Bundesliga. He made his debut on 10th October against champions Bayern Munich, playing 82 minutes in a 2-2 draw, and started again on Friday 24th October in Augsburg’s 1-1 draw with Union Berlin at the WWK Arena.
He has 7 senior caps for the Leone Stars and is expected to be a key player for Sierra Leone in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The SLFA reaffirmed its full support for the player and urged all football stakeholders to work collectively towards eradicating racism from the game.
“SLFA remains committed to promoting a safe and inclusive football environment where every player is respected, protected, and valued, regardless of skin colour, nationality, or background,” the release concluded.
