PUJEHUN – The opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has elected a completely new district executive in Pujehun District, in one of its toughest strongholds in the south.
All incumbent executive positions were swept out in the district elections held on Saturday, 27th September 2026 at the APC District Office in Pujehun Town.
In the main contest for District Chairman, Mr Sylvester Massaquoi defeated the incumbent Chairman, Mr Mohamed Amadu Sesay, popularly known as Dr Woo, by 61 votes to 51 votes – a 10-vote margin.

The clean sweep affected other key positions including Vice Chairman, Secretary, Young Congress Leader and Women’s Leader.
Why It Matters
Pujehun is historically one of the strongest bases of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), where the APC has struggled to win elections since the return to multiparty politics. The party has been trying to rebuild its structures in the South and East ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The election in Pujehun brought together APC delegates from all 14 chiefdoms in the district – including Barri, Kpanga Kabondeh, Kpaka, Gallinas-Perri and Malen – alongside regional stakeholders who observed the process.
The APC is currently conducting lower-level and district executive elections across the country to replace expired executives and to regularize its structures following court orders and internal disputes after the 2023 elections. Several districts in the North-West have already concluded similar exercises.
According to the party, the process is intended to resolve all outstanding internal electoral matters before moving to regional and national executive elections.
What Next
With the new mandate, Massaquoi and his team are expected to focus on reconciling supporters of both camps, strengthening the party’s chiefdom and constituency structures, and expanding the APC’s presence in a district where it has only one MP out of three.
For the outgoing Chairman Dr Woo, who has led the party in the district through the difficult 2023 cycle, his defeat marks the end of his tenure as he now reverts to being an ordinary stakeholder under the new leadership.
