FREETOWN, 15th October 2026 – Second-year Law student of Fourah Bay College, Edwina Hawa Jamiru, has rejected her rustication by the University of Sierra Leone, insisting she never insulted the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Alusine Jalloh.
“I never insulted Professor Jalloh,” Jamiru told the press in response to a rustication letter issued against her.
The University, in a letter dated 12th October 2026 signed by Registrar Munda J. S. Lebbie, said Jamiru, Reg. No. 12143, stands rusticated for the 2026/2027 Academic Year after a Disciplinary Committee found her guilty of using insulting and disrespectful language against Professor Jalloh on the Faculty WhatsApp forum in June 2026.
According to the University, Jamiru admitted to writing the posts during the hearing but claimed her comments were directed at the Dean’s actions, not his person.
Jamiru now says that position has been misrepresented and that the information relied upon by the Committee is not true.
“I refused to accept the rustication. I was expecting to be promoted to LLB 3 this year, but the decision to rusticate me is very bad because the information is not true,” she stated.
She further alleged that her child’s father was behind the situation.
Jamiru, who was expected to progress to LLB Part III this academic year, will now, according to the University’s decision, have to wait until the 2027/2028 Academic Year to resume, after paying her fees and completing registration.
The University says she has 14 days from receipt of the letter to appeal to the Court of the University of Sierra Leone under Part IX, Section 50 (5) of the Universities Act, 2021, if she is dissatisfied.
She is yet to confirm whether she will file the formal appeal.
