Makeni, Sierra Leone – In a heartbreaking incident, a young nursing graduate has died following a collapse during a routine military fitness drill.
Mohamed Jamil Kamara, who had just completed his studies at Njala University’s School of Nursing in December, succumbed after participating in a 2.5-kilometer run as part of cadet training at the 4th Infantry Brigade in Makeni.
Authorities confirmed that Kamara collapsed midway through the exercise, and despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The exact cause of death has not been disclosed, pending an official investigation, but sources close to the brigade suggest it may have been related to the physical demands of the training.
Kamara, remembered by friends and family as a quiet, humble, and profoundly respectful individual, had been looking forward to a promising career in healthcare.
His untimely passing has left the community in mourning, with tributes pouring in from classmates and loved ones who highlighted his dedication and gentle nature.
