The Bank of Sierra Leone has announced that it has produced a sufficient supply of coins to meet the needs of the national economy.
According to a press release issued on October 18, 2024, the bank confirmed that all five denominations of coins are readily available across commercial banks nationwide.
The available denominations include:
– 1 cent
– 5 cents
– 10 cents
– 20 cents
– 50 cents
The Bank has urged the public to visit their local commercial banks, community banks, or microfinance institutions to access these coins.
For those unable to obtain coins through these channels, the Bank of Sierra Leone also provides coin exchange services at its main office on Siaka Stevens Street, Freetown, and at its Kenema branch. These services are available on Thursdays between 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
This initiative is expected to improve liquidity in the economy and enhance the ease of daily transactions.
For further inquiries, members of the public are encouraged to contact their respective banks or visit the Bank of Sierra Leone.
