On Saturday, July 20, 2024, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists Electoral Commission (SLAJEC) successfully held the national and regional elections for the Sierra Leone Reporters Union (SLRU) at the SLAJ Hall in Freetown.
The elections were praised for their peaceful, free, fair, and credible nature, with oversight provided by the National Election Watch (NEW) and representatives of the candidates.
Election Results:
President:
– Yeanor Kabia: 235 votes
– Samuel Koroma: 52 votes
Vice President (Uncontested):
– Zainab Koroma
Secretary General:
– Foday Conteh: 66 votes
– Ronald Monrovia: 222 votes
Financial Secretary (Uncontested):
– Massah Nyanga
Public Relations Officer (Uncontested):
– Jonathan Turner
Eastern Region Representative:
– Momodu Bah: 52 votes
– Susan Kamanda: 129 votes
Northern Region Representative (Uncontested):
– Florence Bah
Southern Region Representative:
– No Nomination
Outgoing SLRU President Amadu Lamrana Bah extended his congratulations to the newly elected officials, including President Yeanor Kabia and Secretary General Ronald Monrovia, in a social media post. He thanked all candidates for their respectful campaigns and expressed satisfaction with the election process.
“I feel so satisfied that this has happened, and we will have a new team with renewed energy to revive SLRU and make it what everyone envisages. I wish we could have done this earlier,” Bah stated.
He also praised SLAJEC for conducting one of the most peaceful and transparent elections, setting a high standard for other institutions.
Bah looks forward to formally handing over to the new President and her executive team as they embark on their journey to move SLRU forward.
