Kenema, August 30, 2025 – The Catholic community in Kenema has been thrown into mourning following the brutal killing of Reverend Father Augustine Amadu, parish priest of the Immaculate Conception Church.
Police confirmed that the attack took place in the early hours of Saturday between 2:00 and 3:00 AM at his residence in the Burma 3 community.
Sub-Inspector Brima James Musa, the police spokesperson, said unknown assailants broke into the compound and fatally assaulted the clergyman. The motive for the killing remains unknown.
Reverend Father Amadu was widely respected for his humility, devotion to faith, and relentless efforts to promote peace and social values in Kenema.
He was also known for his outspoken condemnation of crime and moral decline in society. News of his death has sparked grief across the parish and beyond, with parishioners describing him as a father figure and a tireless servant of the people.
The police have opened an investigation into the killing and assured the public of regular updates as inquiries progress. Father Amadu’s remains have been taken to the Kenema Government Hospital mortuary.
His passing marks a tragic loss to the church and community he served so faithfully.
