Residents of Lumley in western Freetown are appealing to the Freetown City Council (FCC) to urgently remove a decomposing body that has been lying in the area for several days now.
Community members told reporters that despite several calls to the relevant authorities, no action has yet been taken to collect the body for burial.
They expressed concern over the health risks posed by the situation, particularly to children and traders who frequent the busy streets of Lumley.
This incident adds to the growing number of unidentified bodies discovered across Freetown in recent months, many of them believed to be linked to kush, a synthetic drug that has gripped Sierra Leone’s youth. The highly addictive substance has been blamed for numerous deaths, with victims often collapsing in public spaces.
Residents are urging government and health officials to take swift action, not only to remove the remains but also to intensify efforts in tackling drug abuse among young people.
