Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has expressed heartfelt condolences to the people of Namibia following the passing of President Hage Geingob.
In a post shared on X (formallyTwitter), President Bio described the news as a great loss not only for Namibia but for the entire African continent.
“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences to the people of Namibia, Africa and the family of the late President Hage Geingob,” he stated.The Government and people of Sierra Leone stand in solidarity with Namibia in this difficult time of national mourning.
President Bio hailed the former president as a visionary leader and a strong advocate for good governance and Pan-Africanism, who dedicated his life to serving his country and advancing the interests of the African people.
“His legacy of leadership, integrity, and commitment to the well-being of his citizens will be remembered and cherished,” he noted.
President Bio assured the government and people of Namibia that Sierra Leone stands in solidarity with them during this difficult time of national mourning.
He extended his thoughts and prayers to all Namibians as they navigate through the challenging period of grief. He expressed hope that they would find solace and comfort in the enduring legacies of the late President Geingob, a true African statesman.
President Hage Geingob was announced dead on Sunday, February 3rd, 2024, according to an official statement on social media platform X by the office of the Namibian presidency.
Hage Geingob Namibia’s third president and veteran anti-apartheid activist, perished age of 82 after returning from treatment abroad for cancer.
Geingob died at Lady Pohamba Hospital in the capital Windhoek with his wife and his children at his side.
Late last month the presidency said he would travel to the United States for treatment after being diagnosed with cancer following a regular medical check-up.
