Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) President Babadi Kamara has inspected the ongoing construction of a modern 435-seater pavilion at the SLFA Football Academy (also known as the Technical Centre) in Kingtom, Freetown. The visit reaffirmed his commitment to upgrading football facilities across the country.
The pavilion is a personal initiative fully funded by Kamara from his own resources and donated to the SLFA. Valued at more than US$250,000, the project includes a state-of-the-art electronic scoreboard.
Once completed, it will provide safer, more comfortable seating and a professional environment for matches, training sessions, coaching courses, and other football activities at the academy.
During the inspection, President Kamara expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of the work and commended the contractors for steady progress.
He noted that the facility will significantly boost the academy’s capacity and help position it as a stronger centre of excellence for player development and domestic competitions.
This project forms part of broader efforts under Kamara’s leadership, elected SLFA President in August 2025, to modernise Sierra Leone’s football infrastructure. Related initiatives include a new SLFA headquarters expected to open in October 2026 and FIFA-approved pitches at Albert Academy School and Bo School under the FIFA Arena Project. These developments aim to improve conditions for the Leone Stars, local leagues, youth programmes, and fans, while leaving a lasting legacy for the growth of the game in Sierra Leone.
The upgrades at Kingtom, a key venue for training and matches in Freetown, reflect ongoing work to deliver tangible improvements that support safer matchdays and long-term professionalisation of football in the country.
