Joint security forces in Kambia District on Saturday, 17 January 2026, intercepted and seized 190 boxes of suspected Tramadol tablets during a routine security operation at the Mile 18 Police Checkpoint.
The seizure followed intensified searches and monitoring of vehicles, motorbikes, passengers and goods passing through key border crossing points across the district.
During the operation, police intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number AZ-6281 for a routine check.
A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered a yellow rice bag containing 190 boxes of suspected Tramadol tablets, concealed beneath the vehicle in an apparent attempt to evade security screening.
The driver, identified as Mousa Bailo, a holder of a Guinean driver’s licence (No. 21030422405070111), reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled upon approaching the checkpoint.
The impounded vehicle and the seized drugs have since been handed over to the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) Headquarters in Hastings for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect.
