FREETOWN – A man who claims to be a footballer, Abdul Sesay, has been remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown after admitting to stealing a mobile phone from a court clerk.
Sesay appeared before Magistrate Braima Jah at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No.1 on Monday, 29 September 2025, charged with one count of larceny under Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
Police said Sesay was caught on CCTV stealing a silver Samsung Galaxy A15 valued at Le12,000 from court clerk Bakisa Massaquoi on 16 September 2025.
The footage was later printed and distributed to aid his identification.
Ironically, Sesay was arrested after returning to the same court building, where he attempted to sell a football boot to Massaquoi—the very victim of the earlier theft. Corporal 1298 Cecilia Thomas, who had been investigating the case, apprehended him immediately.
In court, Sesay pleaded guilty to the charge. Magistrate Jah refused bail and ordered his remand until sentencing on 6 October 2025.
Inspector Mabel M. Tarawalie is leading the prosecution.
