Hamilton, Sierra Leone – A yacht carrying three Filipino nationals unexpectedly drifted ashore at Beach One in Hamilton on Tuesday morning, prompting a swift response from the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) Navy and the Sierra Leone Police Maritime Unit.
The vessel, named Agios Basseterre, made landfall at approximately 10:30 a.m., drawing the attention of nearby residents who quickly alerted authorities. A coordinated security operation was launched to assess the situation and secure the yacht.
In an official statement, the Sierra Leone Police confirmed that a full search of the vessel revealed no items of criminal or security interest.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the yacht suffered engine failure, which resulted in it drifting toward the Sierra Leonean coast,” the statement noted.
The police also disclosed that arrangements are underway to tow the vessel to the Naval Base in Murray Town for a more detailed technical inspection.
Commending the public for their prompt alert, the Sierra Leone Police emphasized their continued commitment to national security.
“We appreciate the vigilance of citizens and assure the public that we are fully committed to ensuring peace, law, and order throughout the country,” the statement concluded.
