Freetown, Sierra Leone – July 23, 2025 – A major police operation led by officers from the Kissy Division has uncovered a suspected counterfeiting ring, resulting in multiple arrests and the seizure of counterfeit currency, a firearm, and related equipment.
According to police sources, the operation began on July 21, 2025, when the Officer Commanding (OC) Wellington alerted colleagues about the arrest of an individual found in possession of fake currency.
The officers were then directed to the Rokupa community, where the suspect’s alleged associate, identified as Abdul Lamin Sesay, was believed to be operating a printing machine used for producing counterfeit notes.
Upon arrival, officers reported that Sesay refused to open the door, despite repeated verbal appeals.
“We spoke to him nicely, but he declined to cooperate,” a member of the arresting team stated.
The team was eventually forced to enter the premises, where they apprehended Sesay and another individual, Joseph Kabia. Both suspects reside in the Rokupa community.
During a search of the premises, police discovered a blower machine believed to be used in the counterfeiting process. Following further interrogation, Sesay allegedly informed the officers that his superior, who possessed the full printing setup, was located in the Red Pump area.
Acting swiftly, the team proceeded to Red Pump, where a second search was conducted. This led to the discovery of additional counterfeit twenty-leone notes and a Glock 22 pistol loaded with forty (40) rounds of ammunition. A third suspect, identified as Umur B. Kamara, was arrested at the scene.
All three suspects, along with the recovered fake currency, equipment, and firearm, were taken to the Kissy Police Division for further investigation.
The police have confirmed that the matter is now under thorough review and additional charges may follow as the investigation progresses.
