Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has successfully recovered a staggering 34 billion Leones from Mr. Salime Mansaray, a former employee of Ecobank Sierra Leone.
Mansaray was accused of siphoning the funds through fraudulent activities at the bank.
The recovery was announced by Francis Ben Kaifala, the ACC Commissioner, who highlighted the case as a significant victory in the fight against corruption.
Speaking on social media, Kaifala stated, “This sea of money is a portion of over NLe 34 million stolen by one man sitting in a corner of a bank that the Anti-Corruption Commission has recovered, totaling about US$1.5 million. Just one man – a CRIMINAL called Salim Mansaray who fled to Dubai, and we had to return him to Sierra Leone.”
Kaifala added that the ACC had not only recovered the full amount but had also confiscated over NLe 1 million in Mansaray’s personal accounts, effectively rendering him bankrupt.
“In addition, he has been charged, and he pleaded guilty to various corruption and money laundering offences,” he said.
The Commissioner assured Sierra Leoneans that the recovered funds would be returned to the public.
“We will return this money to the people of Sierra Leone. These criminals will not hide. We will continue to hound anyone who touches money meant for the people of Sierra Leone and ensure they pay every penny and face other consequences. Enough is enough for good!”
This case underscores the ACC’s commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring accountability, as Mansaray’s prosecution and financial ruin send a strong warning to others involved in similar schemes.
