Freetown, Monday, July 14, 2025 — A new legal dispute has emerged within Sierra Leone’s entertainment industry as renowned artist Famous has officially initiated criminal proceedings against the country’s Entertainment Ambassador, Kao Denero, over an alleged assault incident.
The matter came up for hearing today at the Magistrate Court in Freetown.
Famous was present in court, but Kao Denero, whose real name is Amara Denis Turay, failed to appear. His legal representatives informed the court that Kao Denero had suffered a medical emergency earlier in the day and was subsequently admitted to the 34 Military Hospital in Freetown for urgent care.
In light of the explanation provided by Kao Denero’s legal team, the court granted an extension and adjourned proceedings to Monday, July 17, 2025. The court also ordered that by the next hearing, verified medical documentation from 34 Military Hospital must be presented to substantiate the claims of his health condition and explain his absence from court.
Earlier this year, two associates of Kao Denero were remanded over assault and intimidation allegations related to an incident at a February 2025 event. That case involves overlapping figures and contributions to escalating tension within Sierra Leone’s music scene
The case has sparked considerable public interest, given the high-profile status of both figures in Sierra Leone’s music and entertainment scene.
