Freetown, Sierra Leone – A 29-year-old woman, Isata Bindi, has been remanded in custody following her appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at the Pademba Road Court No. 1 on Friday, May 16, 2025.
Bindi is facing a charge of manslaughter in connection with the death of Mustapha Bangura.
The alleged incident occurred on April 2, 2025, along Fossic Williams Drive, off Aberdeen Road, in the Western Area of Freetown. Prosecutors claim Bindi unlawfully caused Bangura’s death, though specific details surrounding the incident remain limited at this stage.
Bindi, who appeared in court without legal representation, did not enter a plea. State Prosecutor Assistant Superintendent Ibrahim Mansaray requested an adjournment, citing the need to consult with key witnesses who were not present during the initial hearing.
Due to the gravity of the charge, Magistrate Kekura denied bail and ordered that Bindi be held at the Female Correctional Centre in Freetown, clarifying an earlier administrative error that had mistakenly listed the male facility.
The case has been adjourned to May 23, 2025, for further proceedings.
