Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Abu Joko Bangura, Secretary General of the Council of Traditional Healers in Sierra Leone, has announced that witches in Kambia District are anticipated to make confessions following a recent screening conducted by Ariogbo.
In an interview with Awoko on Monday, Bangura shared details about the screening exercise, which concluded on Sunday, September 7, 2024.
The screening, carried out by traditional healers who moved from village to village across Kambia District, aimed to identify and address individuals involved in witchcraft. Bangura revealed that many individuals were “knocked down”—a term indicating spiritual apprehension—during the screening process. He expects that these individuals will soon be compelled to confess their practices or face illness and potential death without doing so.
“The purpose of this screening was to remove and eradicate all demonic influences from Kambia to ensure the spiritual safety of the community,” Bangura explained. The screening process lasted several days, culminating on Sunday, and was conducted to enhance the spiritual well-being of the local population.
Bangura noted that the exact number of witches apprehended spiritually remains unclear at this time. “We will only know the total number of confessions once the witches begin to come forward,” he said. The spiritual apprehension experienced by those involved in witchcraft will likely lead to confessions, and the healers will be able to account for these individuals once they come forward.
According to Bangura, those affected by the screening know who they are, and their eventual confessions will provide a clearer picture of the impact and extent of the witchcraft in the region.
The traditional healers anticipate further revelations as the process continues.
