The Sierra Leone Senior Women’s Cricket Team has etched its name into the record books, emerging triumphant in the BCA Kalahari Women’s T20 International Tournament in Botswana.
The team achieved a clean sweep, winning all seven matches played in Gaborone, including a dominant final against the hosts.
In the final showdown, Sierra Leone posted a formidable 107 for 5 in their 20 overs. Botswana, facing immense pressure, faltered in their chase and managed just 68 for 9, handing Sierra Leone a convincing 39-run win and the championship.
Individual brilliance shone through during the tournament. Anne Marie Monica Kamara led the bowling charge, claiming the Bowler of the Series title with 12 wickets in seven innings and an astonishing economy rate of 1.79. Captain Aminata Kamara and Emma Kamara were close behind, taking 10 wickets each to secure second and third in the bowling rankings.
In the field, Marie Turay showcased her prowess, earning the Best Fielder award by claiming seven dismissals in seven innings. Aminata Kamara’s all-around performances saw her crowned the Most Valuable Player, with Celina Bull and Emma Kamara finishing as second and third in the MVP standings.
The team’s success is set to boost Sierra Leone’s ICC Women’s T20 International ranking and has inspired hopes of greater women’s cricket participation in the country.
Looking ahead, the team’s attention now turns to the ICC Qualifier in July 2025, as they aim to build on their momentum and redefine their status within the North-West African Cricket Council.
