Freetown, Sierra Leone — Senegal’s Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, arrived in Sierra Leone today for an official visit aimed at deepening ties between the two West African nations.
He was warmly welcomed at Lungi International Airport by Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh.
The visit comes on the heels of high-level discussions held in Dakar on April 22, 2024, where both countries underscored their commitment to advancing food and energy sovereignty and exploring the potential development of a regional mineral hub.
During his stay, Prime Minister Sonko is expected to hold bilateral talks with President Julius Maada Bio to discuss the establishment of a mineral processing hub in Sierra Leone—a move that could significantly boost the country’s mining sector. The leaders will also explore opportunities for energy collaboration and enhancing trade and private sector partnerships.
As part of his itinerary, the Senegalese Prime Minister will tour key mining sites across Sierra Leone, where he will receive briefings from local mining and energy sector representatives.
The visit is expected to culminate in the signing of a joint communiqué and a memorandum of understanding, solidifying the cooperation between the two nations.
