Freetown – The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has announced strict new measures to decongest the Queen Elizabeth II Quay and improve the free movement of people and goods through the Port.
In a public notice dated 31st July 2026, the Authority said the steps form part of the Government of Sierra Leone’s ongoing efforts to reduce traffic jams and enhance road safety around the busy quay.
Under the new rules:
1. Unroadworthy vehicles banned – Any vehicle that is not roadworthy will not be allowed to enter the Queen Elizabeth II Quay. Such vehicles are also prohibited from using public roads until they have been properly repaired and certified as roadworthy.
2. No entry for vehicles without number plates – Vehicles that do not have a valid registration number plate will not be permitted to enter the quay.
3. Public urged to report obstructing vehicles – Road users are encouraged to help keep the roads clear by reporting any abandoned or traffic-obstructing vehicle. Reports can be made by calling the SLRSA Toll-Free Number 844.
The Authority appealed for the full cooperation of vehicle owners, drivers, importers, clearing agents and all road users in ensuring the Port and surrounding roads remain safe, orderly and free from unnecessary congestion.
“Together, let us make our roads safer for everyone,” the notice stated.
