Freetown, June 2, 2025 — The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) has confirmed that two individuals have died following the collapse of a three-storey building under construction at Pentagon, Off Regent Road, Lumley, Freetown.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:00pm yesterday while construction work was underway. Preliminary reports from the NDMA revealed that six workers were inside the building at the time of the collapse. Four of them managed to escape with injuries, but the contractor and one other worker were trapped under the rubble.
Despite intensive search and rescue efforts by the NDMA response team, supported by engineers from the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and personnel from the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), both the contractor and his worker were later removed from the debris and confirmed dead.
The NDMA has called in additional support from Paviport and Gento Group of Companies, who have provided heavy-duty equipment to assist in the ongoing rescue and debris removal operation.
Further updates will be provided as investigations continue into the cause of the tragic collapse.
