The Sierra Leone Police have arrested six alleged hardcore armed robbers with dangerous ammunition in Bo on the evening of Thursday, August 22, 2024.
Three of the said suspects were reportedly from Rutile, and others from Bo.
According to the Southern Regional Police Commander, AIG Brima Kanneh, the six suspects were apprehended at Africa Guest House in Njagboima Section of Bo city. They were found in possession of a fully loaded AK47 with the serial number SL/SLP 16 4902706-2778, along with other dangerous ammunition.
The arrest was made in response to a recent spike in armed robberies in Bo and its surroundings. Just a week prior, on August 15, 2024, a mechanic was reportedly shot and killed by alleged armed robbers in the Torgboi Town section of Bo city. This incident prompted the police to take swift action and crack down on criminal activities in the city.
AIG Brima Kanneh praised the collaborative efforts that led to the successful arrest of the six suspects. He specifically commended the Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police, IG William Fayia Sellu, for deploying a reinforcement anti-robbery team to support their operations in Bo.
Despite the alarming rise in armed robberies in Bo, AIG Brima reassured the residents that they could sleep soundly at night. Stating that, the police are in full control of the situation and are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of the city.
The news of the arrest was met with a sense of relief among the residents of Bo, who had been living in fear due to the escalating violence in the Municipality. Many have however expressed gratitude towards the police for their swift response and decisive action in apprehending the suspects.
As the investigation into the apparent armed robberies continues, AIG Brima Kanneh urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the Police. While assuring the residents that they will continue to work tirelessly to rid the city of criminal elements and ensure the safety of all citizens.
