Sierra Leone has been drawn into a challenging Group G for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, set to face defending champions Ivory Coast, along with 2013 Champions Zambia and Chad.
The draw, held in Johannesburg on Thursday, July 4, 2025, revealed the Leone Stars’ path to the prestigious tournament.
Amidu Karim’s squad will need to overcome formidable opponents to secure a spot in next year’s AFCON, which will be hosted in Morocco.
The qualifiers consist of 48 teams divided into 12 groups of four. The top two teams from each group will advance to the tournament, scheduled for December and January.
Group A features Tunisia, Madagascar, Comoros, and Gambia, while Group B includes hosts Morocco, Gabon, Central African Republic (CAR), and Lesotho. In Group C, Egypt will compete against Mauritania, Cape Verde, and Botswana. Group D sees Nigeria, Benin, Libya, and Rwanda vying for qualification.
Group E comprises Algeria, Equatorial Guinea, Togo, and Liberia, with Group G pitting Ivory Coast, Zambia, Sierra Leone, and Chad against each other. Five-time AFCON champions Cameroon are in Group F with Namibia, Kenya, and Zimbabwe. South Africa finds itself in Group H, facing Uganda, Congo, and South Sudan.
Senegal, aiming to reclaim their AFCON title, will face Burkina Faso, Malawi, and Burundi in Group L.
