In a press briefing held during the Ministry of Information and Civic Education Weekly Press Briefing, ACP Brima Kamara, the Head of Sierra Leone Police Public Relations, addressed the nation on the critical security matters unfolding within the country.
During his address, ACP Brima Kamara revealed a tense encounter involving local hip-hop artist Mohamed Massaquoi, famously known as Big Fish.
According to Kamara, the incident escalated when Big Fish seized a firearm from an OSD officer (paramilitary police) and began firing shots into the air in Central Freetown.
In response to this alarming situation, the Sierra Leonean police force took action, with both a policewoman and a military officer attempting to persuade Big Fish to relinquish his weapon. Unfortunately, these efforts proved fruitless, forcing authorities to make a difficult decision to avert potential disaster in an already dangerous situation.
ACP Brima Kamara assured the public of the nation’s overall safety, highlighting that schools continued their operations without disruption. He called upon all citizens to maintain peace and carry on with their daily routines.
Meanwhile, the Sierra Leone Armed Forces expressed their condolences to Big Fish’s family and made a significant announcement regarding the incident.
In cases like these, the military traditionally initiates a board of inquiry to determine whether the actions of the military personnel involved align with national safety or personal safety concerns.
This crucial inquiry is already underway, as confirmed by the military. It aims to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the use of force by the military officer in this incident, shedding light on whether the actions taken were in the interest of national security or driven by personal considerations.
