Freetown—The Government of Sierra Leone has issued a strong condemnation of recent reports alleging intimidation, harassment, and unwarranted arrests of members of the Fula community by certain elements within the security forces.
“These actions are deeply troubling and do not reflect the values or directives of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio or this government,” a statement from the government emphasized.
The incidents, which reportedly occurred over the past 48 hours, have sparked widespread concern. The government reaffirmed its commitment to tolerance, inclusion, and the protection of the rights of all citizens, regardless of their ethnic background.
“The Fula people are valued and integral members of the Sierra Leonean community. Their contributions to the nation’s progress are invaluable,” the statement continued. “We are fully committed to supporting their rights as bona fide citizens of this country.”
Authorities have launched a thorough and impartial investigation into the allegations, vowing to hold anyone responsible for illegal actions fully accountable under the law.
“We assure all Sierra Leoneans that this government is dedicated to fostering unity and safeguarding the dignity and security of every individual,” the statement added.
The Ministry of Information and Civic Education has invited the public to direct any inquiries about the matter to its offices as investigations unfold.
