Freetown, Sierra Leone — A high-ranking officer of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), Brigadier General Bockarie, has been accused of orchestrating a visa scam that cost a local businessman a staggering $50,000—equivalent to approximately 1.2 billion Leones.
The allegation was made by Malodor, CEO of Malador Company Ltd, who claims that Brig. Gen. Bockarie, along with two associates identified as Alieu and Samking, defrauded him under the guise of facilitating U.S. visas.
According to Malodor, the incident occurred in February last year when he was approached by the trio with an offer to procure American visas at a cost of $12,000 each.
He proceeded to make payments for seven individuals. However, he later received what he described as fake visas via WhatsApp from Brig. Gen. Bockarie.
When he demanded the corresponding passports, Malodor said he was referred to an alleged business partner of the group, but the documents were never delivered.
Malodor further revealed that although he has received inquiries from both State House and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), there has been no tangible progress on the case more than a year later. He is now appealing to the Inspector General of Police to launch a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
Repeated attempts to contact Brig. Gen. Bockarie for comment have so far been unsuccessful.
