Minister of Internal Affairs, Lansana Dumbuya Lengor Esq., has met with senior police leadership in the Western Area to strengthen security preparations ahead of the festive holidays and reinforce the national campaign against lawlessness and indiscipline.
The high-level engagement, held on Monday, 8 December 2025, at the Police Officers Mess in Kingtom, brought together the Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, his deputy Sahr Yomba Senesi, and Local Unit Commanders from across the region.
The meeting focused on boosting public safety measures as Christmas approaches and ensuring sustained enforcement against illegal activities.
Minister Lengor urged police commanders to heighten surveillance and deepen their understanding of emerging security concerns within their jurisdictions. He emphasized the SLP’s core mandate.
“The Sierra Leone Police’s primary responsibility is to protect lives and property,” he stated. “Commanders must know what is happening in their areas and respond swiftly with preventive action.”
He commended the police for gains made in combating drug abuse—particularly the widespread use of kush—and encouraged continued vigilance to maintain social order during the festive period. He noted that reducing lawlessness remains vital for improving public safety and strengthening the country’s appeal to investors.
The Minister also highlighted ongoing efforts to address noise pollution, reckless behaviour, and other forms of public indiscipline.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to enforcing the ban on commercial motorbike riders (okadas) in the Central Business District, describing it as a necessary measure to ease congestion and enhance safety.
He encouraged commanders to intensify community policing, stressing that collaboration with local stakeholders remains essential to effective crime prevention.
“One of my goals is to make Sierra Leone one of the most peaceful and safest countries in the world,” Minister Lengor affirmed.
Inspector General Sellu, in his remarks, assured the Minister that the police hierarchy has already begun reinforcing security operations.
He said the SLP remains committed to delivering a peaceful and incident-free holiday season and sustaining those gains into the new year.
