Gbondo Town, Bo District – A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday morning in Gbondo Town, Bo District, Southern Sierra Leone, when an unidentified man lost his life due to electrocution.
According to eyewitness accounts, the victim came into contact with a live electrical cable, resulting in a fatal shock. The circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear, but some onlookers alleged that the man may have attempted to tamper with the power lines, which ultimately led to his death.
Authorities from the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) and the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC) have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
This tragedy comes shortly after a similar fatal electrocution incident in Kambia, Northern Sierra Leone, where two EDSA staff members were carrying out maintenance work on an electric pole. The pole unexpectedly collapsed, killing one worker and leaving the other with severe injuries.
Although electrocution cases are relatively rare in rural Sierra Leone, the aging transmission infrastructure and ongoing maintenance work pose significant risks to both electrical workers and the local population.
Authorities have been urged to enhance safety measures to prevent further tragedies.
