On the evening of Thursday, August 22, 2024, a violent altercation in Mile 91 escalated when a man identified as Gassim allegedly attacked Ibrahim Conteh, an employee of Miro Forestry, by pouring acid on his face.
The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a woman who is also employed at the same company.
Eyewitness Alieu Jalloh informed News Journal Media that Ibrahim Conteh was immediately rushed to CHF Hospital in Mile 91 for urgent medical attention.
According to Dr. Noah, the medical superintendent at CHF Hospital, Conteh’s condition is critical, with severe damage to his eyes.
“The acid has caused extensive damage to his eyes, turning them black. He urgently needs specialized eye care,” Dr. Noah explained.
He further advised Ibrahim’s family to transfer him to an emergency hospital in Freetown for immediate and specialized treatment.
“If he is to have any chance of survival, prompt action is required; otherwise, he risks losing his sight,” Dr. Noah cautioned.
Authorities have reported that Gassim is currently on the run, evading capture.
This incident is part of a worrying rise in violence related to personal disputes. Just last week, an assistant lecturer in Freetown was found dead, allegedly murdered by his girlfriend, according to autopsy results. In another case, a confrontation over a married woman in Kenema City ended in the fatal stabbing of Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh.
