Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh revealed in an interview with Le Point Magazine in France that President Julius Maada Bio’s recent visit to Burkina Faso is part of Sierra Leone’s broader efforts to address the crises in the Sahel at the United Nations Security Council.
Dr. Jalloh, who previously served as a United Nations security analyst in the Sahel and is a governance expert, emphasized Sierra Leone’s commitment to making peace, security, terrorism, and the return to constitutional rule in the Sahel key priorities during its 2024-2025 tenure as a non-permanent member of the Security Council.
“It is time to place the Sahel issue at the center of the international agenda,” Dr. Jalloh stated. “Sierra Leone has decided to do everything in its power to promote stability initiatives in this crucial region.”
He noted that this strategy involves direct engagement with the heads of state in the Sahel, including upcoming visits by President Bio to Mali and Niger.
“We must listen to the leaders of these three countries. We must understand their objectives, concerns, and ambitions,” Dr. Jalloh explained.
Sierra Leone aims to bring these discussions to the global stage, he said, with the goal of developing “a credible roadmap that garners consensus both within the sub-region and internationally.”
The Vice President’s remarks underscore Sierra Leone’s proactive role in seeking long-term solutions for the Sahel’s challenges.
