Foya, Liberia – March 18, 2025 – A major drug bust near the Sierra Leone-Liberia border has led to the seizure of high-grade marijuana and Tramadol worth over $77,000 (NLe 1.7 million).
Liberian authorities, led by the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) in Foya District, Lofa County, intercepted a black pickup truck with Liberian license plate A533348 following a tip-off. The vehicle, reportedly traveling from Sierra Leone to Monrovia, was stopped at 10:45 PM on March 17 and taken to the Foya Police Station for inspection.
The driver, Fayiah Lamie, a 43-year-old Monrovia resident from the Mandi tribe, initially claimed he was transporting clothes and slippers. However, a thorough search revealed:
- 772 plates of high-grade marijuana worth $77,200 (NLe 1.7 million)
- 8 boxes of Tramadol worth $842 (NLe 18,000)
Lamie was immediately arrested and is currently under investigation. Authorities say he will soon face formal charges in court.
The LDEA has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting drug trafficking and ensuring public safety. The case is still under investigation, with more updates expected in the coming days.
