Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, on Sunday, 9th November 2025, joined First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, Chief Minister Dr. Moinina David Sengeh, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and top military officers at the National Armed Forces Remembrance Day Service held at the Cenotaph on George Street, Freetown.
The solemn ceremony, held under the theme *“For a Better Future, Remember Yesterday, Act Today,”* called on citizens to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who gave their lives in defence of peace and freedom.
The commemoration honoured the gallant men and women who fought and died in World War I (1914–1918), World War II (1939–1945), the Sierra Leone Civil War (1991–2002), and other regional and international missions.
Vice President Juldeh Jalloh and First Lady Fatima Maada Bio joined other dignitaries in laying wreaths in memory of the fallen heroes, expressing solidarity with widows, veterans, and families gathered at the service. The atmosphere was solemn and emotional as war veterans stood side by side with serving officers, diplomats, and members of the public.
A minute of silence was observed to honour the nation’s heroes — a powerful reminder of the price paid for Sierra Leone’s peace and freedom. Speakers at the ceremony urged Sierra Leoneans to preserve the spirit of unity, discipline, and patriotism as a living tribute to those who served.
In a social media post after the event, Vice President Juldeh Jalloh wrote:
> “Today, I represented His Excellency Julius Maada Bio at the Remembrance Service in honor of War Heroes at the Cenotaph in Freetown. I had the great pleasure of engaging with ex-servicemen and women of the RSLAF. Their sacrifices and commitment to our nation’s development is exemplary.”
The Vice President also commended the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) for their professionalism and continued service to the nation, describing the commemoration as “a solemn reminder of the bravery that secured our peace.”
The ceremony concluded with interfaith prayers and renewed commitments to improve the welfare of ex-servicemen, widows, and their families — ensuring that the sacrifices of Sierra Leone’s heroes will always be remembered and honoured.
