President of Ghana Nana Akufo Ado and Macky Sall, President of Senegal will visit Sierra Leone today Saturday 23 December 2023 on a one day working visit.
According reliable sources, both Presidents will have a fruitful discussions with President Bio and senior Government officials on the on going security situation in the country and a host of other developmental activities for the peace, stability and development of the country and the sub region.
Meanwhile, Sierra Leone is poised to become the focal point for regional peacekeeping efforts with the imminent launch of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Force headquarters in January 2024.
Foreign Affairs Minister Timothy Kabbah announced yesterday that the force, strategically stationed at the old Lungi International Airport, will focus on stabilisation and peacekeeping initiatives in conflict zones, emphasizing its role in promoting and sustaining democracy across the region.
Contrary to an intervention force, the ECOWAS Stabilisation Force will collaborate with existing military forces in member countries, ensuring independence while collectively working towards upholding democracy.
Similar missions are already in operation in The Gambia and Guinea Bissau, further solidifying ECOWAS’s commitment to regional stability.
