Lawyers for Former President Ernest Bai Koroma have formally applied to the court to allow their client to travel to the Federal Republic of Nigeria on medical grounds.
The court is now examining the veracity of the claim made by lawyers for the Former President.
West African diplomats based in Freetown have disclosed that, in principle, the Sierra Leone government was not averse to the idea of Former President Koroma leaving the country on medical grounds subject to the approval of the court.
The ECOWAS President Dr Omar Alieu Touray was last week in Freetown to conclude arrangements for Former President Koroma to leave the country on medical grounds.
The court is expected to rule on the application this week, according to judicial sources.
Former President Koroma has been formally slammed with four counts of treason, misprision of treason and harboring. He is to make his second appearance in court on Wednesday, 17th January, 2024.
